What's the best job in the world?

Posted on Aug 28th, 2007 by OddMott : Gens Patronus OddMott
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 28, 2007:

The best job in the world..... is a matter of perspective!

A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them.

"Not very long," answered the Mexican.

"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.

The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.

The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, play the guitar, and sing a few songs... I have a full life."

The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard, and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat."

"And after that?" asked the Mexican.

"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise."

"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.

"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American.

"And after that?"

"Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!"

"Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican.

"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings doing what you like and enjoying your friends."

"With all due respect sir, but that's exactly what I am doing now. So what's the point wasting twenty twenty-five years?" asked the Mexican.

Glad you liked it Chuck!

I just find that it adds some much needed perspective in this crazy, hectic life of ours.  It's actually a lesson that I just learned recently and it's caused me to rearrange my entire life and my plan for the future!

Uh, I actually know the fisherman guy, and well–he sold out and took the business guy’s advice. He now owns an international seafood supply company based out of Long Beach, near Los Angeles. His biggest purchasers are China and Uzbekistan followed by the Dutch.

He is no longer married, but instead has multiple girlfriends in most large metropolitan cities. He visits his children around three times a year, in their 7-bedroom, 3-story house in the nicer part of the same village in Mexico.

He still plays guitar, whenever he has time, which is not very often since the acoustics aren’t that good in his Lear jet.

Ah yes, the old “what the heck, I better get it while it's mine to get”, story.
An now, his peaceful life is being deavoured buy the leeches of Jets, Pets, and The Jet Set Image.

Any bets on how he'll crash:
1. In The Plane
2. In The Market
3. In The Over Dose
4. In The Love Triangle
5. in The Suicide

Maybe none of the above but one thing's for sure, history dictates he's well on his way to a crash a burn.

Nice ad-on doland.
Thanx for playing…

Ummm… I'm a betting man, so I'm going to go with both 2 & 4…. and predict he'll end it all with a big 3 + 5 finish as well… Or, as I hope, he gets wise and goes back to his wife and kids, once again takes up playing guitar with his friends and re-learns to love the simple pleasures of fishing for his family.

Sad, really. Poor Fransisco Moralez (should i have mentioned his name?) has not realized the error of his decision. Listen to the Devil, you're gonna get burned. He, (the Devil) wants to convince you that you made a wise decision by going global and embracing high profits, high technology, etc. But little does Frank know that these are mere distractions to what's really important in life; Living.

If I ever see him again, I will remind him of how relaxing his life was beofre, and how little stress he had.

I'll keep the same hope as you, Matt.
Maybe our hope will give doland some collective “juice”, if he gets a chance to convince Frank Mo (or should I say, Mo Franks) to stop chasing the paradise he already had and just go back to it.

GO HOME FRANCO!!!! Pack it up, let it go and just go back to the simpler ways of living, for goodness sake.

I'll bet the egg head who gave Francis that advice never had a moment of family leisure or a sense of having everything he needed.
I can only imagine the cacauphony of ghosts that whispered inadequacies in his noggin.
Like him, poor Moralez was just too vulnerable to the sudductive “consumption race”.
This common tale really is so sad; so tragic; so long Franks of the world.
